cEDH in 2025

Where will cEDH go in 2025? That’s a good question, but one rife with uncertainty and a lack of clear direction.

2024 introduced a lot of change to the format, some positive, some negative. We saw new cards, new tournaments, new players and an increasing number of players looking to take part in our beloved format. We also saw drama in the community, in the people that run our tournaments and software, and a hostile takeover of the Commander Rules Committee due to community engagement (on both sides).

2025 is likely to be more of the same. We can expect to see new cards, new tournaments, and new players. However, the drama of 2024 is likely to continue. The Commander Rules Committee is still in flux, and the community is still divided.

One of the biggest challenges facing the cEDH format in 2025 is the increasing power level of the format. New cards are constantly being released that are more powerful than ever before. This makes it difficult for new players to get into the format, and it also makes it difficult for experienced players to keep up.

However the future is bright. We have a tournament scene that’s decentralising, a community that’s engaged in stewardship and growth, and a hopefully more structured relationship with WotC.
